28 Somatic Steps to Freedom from Chronic Stress, Discomfort & Pain

First, thank you for your interest in the 28 Somatic Steps course. I’d be thrilled to have you join up!

I don’t have a fancy ‘sales page’. Instead, all you need is right here. (When you want to sign up, just click here to enrol.)

This course is for you if you’ve already experienced or are using a ‘somatic’ approach to deal with stuck stress, stored trauma, and chronic discomfort and pain or if you’ve read up on Somatics (maybe just my free guide to the 3 Somatic Keys) and are keen to start experiencing it for yourself.

Its 28 steps guide you to ease stuck stress from your whole self, via your nervous system and wider somatic self (your soma). It’s designed to release stress stored in your body, whether that shows up most for you as physical or emotional symptoms and patterns.

The outcome of the 28 Somatic Steps course is simple: Through guided movement and self-sensing sessions, you'll develop your capacity to notice and release stress patterns as they arise in your body – reducing chronic pain and lowering your stress levels while gaining practical skills to soothe your nervous system in daily life.

How does the course work?

I've called the course 28 Somatic Steps to Embodied Freedom because that’s what it is!

In it, I guide you through 28 steps (plus bonus content) to slowly and gently release the stress you’re holding in your muscles and your nervous system. You learn through using self-sensing, self-moving, and self-learning – the 3 Somatic Keys essential to embodied ease.

There’s also some content around nervous system education: so while most of the course is experiential (i.e. you ‘do’ movement and sensing sessions), three of the 28 steps focus on the ‘theory’ so that you understand more about WHY what you’re doing is effective, and how it works.

The 28 steps are carefully structured to build your capacity and embodied understanding of this work, to get the best results for you. In that way it’s different from taking group classes, and very different from trying out various ‘somatic movements’ or ‘sensing practices’ taken from YouTube and other online resources! There are some great resources out there, for sure. But this course is designed to make sense to your nervous system, and to develop your self-learning in quite specific, structured ways.

There is also space now (new from December 2026) to add comments and ask questions within the course portal.

Additionally, live online group sessions are included, where (at least once per month) we’ll do some guided movement and sensing work plus have time for Q&As. These are not a ‘required’ part of the course, but can really help if you’re feeling stuck, enjoy group sessions, or have a question or insight you’d like to share.

How long does the course take?

Most people spend 4 to 6 weeks going through the whole course. And you receive daily emails once you sign up. BUT it’s a genuinely self-paced course – and comes with built-in options to take a day or two’s break, so you don’t feel rushed even if you’re using the emails as motivation.

Plenty people take a couple of months to work through the course at their own pace – and plenty people go through it more than once, learning new things about themselves each time.

Each of the 28 ‘steps’ includes a short intro video, and a short video lesson (or two) to implement the focus area for that day. You can expect to spend between 10 and 30 minutes on each lesson – but since each day is broken down into manageable chunks, even on ‘longer’ days you can go at your own pace, and break up content or do multiple lessons if you have the time.

What can the 28 Somatic Steps course help you with?

  • Chronic pain and discomfort – whether from a chronic pain condition, an old injury, a ‘bad’ postural habit, a repetitive stress injury, stored trauma, or what’s often termed ‘medically unexplained’ pain.

  • Persistently high stress levels and ‘anxiety’ – especially when you’re not sure why you feel stressed or anxious all the time. Somatics that combines movement and sensing work related to human stress responses can be particularly effective at lowering stress levels because it literally releases stress patterns that have become stuck in your system.

  • All sorts of neuromuscular pain – again, this type of pain is often the cause of ‘medically unexplained symptoms’ (MUS), as well as pain that increases when your stress levels do, and pain that tends to be felt all over your body, or changes location.

  • Feeling like your body just hurts, even though there’s no real reason it ‘should’, and there’s nothing really wrong. (You may think, or have been told, it’s just your age’ – but that explanation is unhelpful, and is based on the ‘myth of ageing’.)

  • It can help with a whole range of issues such as hypermobility, back pain, neck and shoulder pain, hand pain (carpal tunnel etc), scoliosis, tension headaches, feeling down, stiffness and lack of comfort in moving, sleep difficulties (especially when due to a lack of physical comfort), and more – including gently releasing stored stress and trauma that contribute to or cause these sorts of issues.

So what does all this cost?

Your investment for the 28 Somatic Steps to Embodied Freedom from Chronic Stress, Discomfort & Pain course is just $297 (currently that’s around £220 or €250)

IMPORTANT INFO:

Some notes on what the course is not, what to avoid when taking it, and what works alongside it:

  • While taking the course, it’s best not to undergo any physical therapies (such as massage, physio, chiropractic, craniosacral); this is partly because it will then be harder for you to assess how the course is helping you, and also because most physical therapies counteract the emphasis on self-moving that Somatics is based on.

  • It’s also better not to continue with activities that use static poses or stretching (including very gentle stretching) when doing the course. (So, practices such as yoga, ‘strength’ training, and anything that involves holding poses.) More generally, you should avoid stretching while taking the course. (There’s a full explanation of why this is inside.)

  • The 28 Somatic Steps course is not a replacement for 1:1 psychotherapy or counselling, but can be used to complement it if that’s something you are exploring or undergoing.

  • The 28 Somatic Steps course is not a replacement for medical treatment (and I do not advise taking it if you’re suffering from acute pain – it is specifically designed to address chronic pain and symptoms, not acute pain).

  • You should at all times follow any specific medical guidelines you’ve been given by your doctor. You should never move into pain (or into more pain, if you have chronic pain that’s present all the time).

Because all the course content is available to you as soon as you sign up, there is no money-back guarantee. This is normal for online courses where all the content is delivered to you on payment. (I do offer a guarantee for my group programme, where live sessions are key to delivery.)

You have access to the course for 14 months or the course lifetime (whichever is shorter). The course has been running for 4 years now, and I have no plans to close it down. If you wish to extend your access to the course beyond this length of time, you may request that by email to me, and I will usually extend your access for free or for a nominal admin fee
